Portrait Project

I spent a semester in high school studying the art of live portraiture. I had various classmates and teachers come in and sit for me as I did a series of portraits. Some 10 minute sketches (72 total), some with twins (10) and some pen drawings (16). The capstone of the project was a large, color, self-portrait. These sessions allowed me to learn so much about my community, and to be able to look deeply into people's eyes and listen to their stories. As I took on a leadership role the next year within our community, these experiences sitting with fellow peers was transformative.
